Christmas Eve Service
We went to the 7 PM Christmas Eve church service at Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Church and had a wonderful evening with friends. Earlier in the day, amongst Christmas presents arriving from afar, we received a box of 200 LiveStrong wrist bands – 100 each adult and youth. We brought the whole box in the van and brought 20 each adult and youth bands into chruch. During the service, Jacob and I stayed in the comfort room while he crawled about and ate some good books. After the service, Spencer began giving away wrist bands and accepting any money offered – on occasion he would say “five dollars for a wrist band – or not”. We ran out and got 20 more adult bands and 10 more youth bands and gave them away as well. We added $61 to Spencer’s Ride for the Roses account so we came close to doubling donation on the $70 worth of wrist bands we gave away. Right now, we’re focused on raising awareness, plus I talked to a few people about larger donations in the future.
We’ll take a pile of wrist bands to day surgery at Childrens Hospital next time we go on January 17. That feels so far away compared to the last two months with procedures almost every week.
We’re off to visit some friends for a neighborhood Christmas dinner. We have 10 adults and 9 children. With luck, we will not need to call in air support to maintain control.
Merry Christmas all.
