Current Wristband Tally

As I mentioned a while back, we bought about 250 LiveStrong wristbands and we give them out just to help raise awareness and support for Cancer Survivorship issues. On occasion, quite frequently in fact, people will give us small amounts of cash after we give them a wristband. Often, people give one dollar for each wristband. Sometimes, they give more. Sometimes, they give a little spare change. We’ve been saving the coins and bills in a big jar. The jar was getting a bit full, so I turned it into a teller’s check to support Spencer in the Ride for the Roses and we managed to get $166.13. We still have about 60 wrist bands left, and we’ve kept about 20 for our immediate family, so we’re averaging about $1 donated per wristband we give away.

Why does our family have “about 20” wrist bands? Spencer sometimes wears up to sixteen wristbands, some youth-sized wristbands on his wrists and some (usually adult sized) on his ankles. He does it partly because he loves to wear the wristbands and partly so he always has a few he can give away if he think someone needs one.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed both large and small amounts to Fight Cancer in honor of Spencer. Sometime this week, I’m planning to post a draft of our first round fundraising letter and begin the mailings to family and friends.
