NCSD, Blood Drive, Hopes, and Memories
Sunday, June 5, 2005, from noon to 3 PM, we are having a National Cancer Survivors Day celebration of life at Live Oak Unitarian Universalist Church at 3315 El Salido Parkway; Cedar Park, TX. We will have food, information tables about cancer survivorship issues, kid activities, and a donation table for Spencer’s effort to raise $25,000 for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. You are welcome to stop by for the service at 10:30 or just visit the NCSD celebration in the afternoon.
We are also having a Wall of Hopes and Memories, an idea I shamelessly stole from the Lance Armstrong Fondation where they have a Wall of Hope. It’s a simple concept. We set up a bulletin board. We post a few photos, stories, and mementos of people with cancer. We solicit others to do the same. If you have a photo, hope, or memory about someone who has or had cancer, please post it (post a link to photos) as a comment here. I’ll print and post them on the board. Or just bring something when you come on Sunday.
Austin Blood & Tissue Center will be onsite from 12-4pm accepting blood donations to benefit South Texas cancer survivors and others in need. So after sponsoring Spencer, come on over to the bus and help a few more folks in just around half an hour. Blood products are critical for all kinds of medical care, including cancer treatment. I’d have to check Spencer’s medical records to be sure, but by my rough recollection he’s had 4 units of red blood cells, 5 units of platelets, and 1 unit of plasma in the last 7 months. We owe Spencer’s health to blood donations.
Google map to Live Oak might be helpful if you need directions.
