Polka Dot Level Achieved

Spencer’s total fundraising for the Lance Armstrong Foundation as of 5 PM CDT is $17,396.36 from 167 different donors. He has officially achieved the Polka Dot Jersey award level. He has achieved the baseline goal and still have a shot at $25,000 and the Yellow Jersey level. Your donations to the LAF support programs that help cancer survivors cope with the immediate and long term effects of a cancer diagnosis. Information from directly from the LAF helped us understand what we were dealing with right after Spencer’s diagnosis of leukemia. CancerCare teleconferences helped us understand the information we received from doctors and make long term plans. The LiveStrong SurvivorCare notebook helped us track Spencer’s treatments. Local Austin charity Wonders and Worries offered a child-parent relationship training. Eighty percent of donations to the LAF go directly to support the LAF mission as implemented by the direct programs and grants to other cancer survivorship programs.

Survivors of Hurricane Katrina are important and I understand your attention, time, and money may be focused there. The LAF is currently accepting proposals from cancer organizations support cancer patients impacted by Katrina. They will be granting approximately $500,000 with individual grants of up to $50,000. The need for cancer survivorship support continues, and I hope you will also consider a donation to support cancer survivors and Spencer’s personal Ride for the Roses.
