Let the Smackdown Begin

I mentioned before that I am balding for charity and how easily I was convinced to shave my head to help raise money for CureSearch via St. Baldrick’s. I haven’t spent a whole lot of effort on it, but last week Spencer challenged me. He wants to shave his head and raise money as well. And he wants it to be a contest. He thinks he can raise more money than I can by promising to shave his head. It’s time for Dad to show Son what it’s like to lose.

We’re going down to Chidlren’s Hospital of Austin Friday morning. We, and three others (doctors and employees of the hospital) will be getting shaved. We’re expecting some media attention. KEYE might be there for news coverage and we’re hoping someone from KLRU will make it to cover it for an issue of “Austin Now” to air in June. More on that later.

Others are getting shaved on Saturday at Austin’s Cancer Awareness Fair and I highly recommend visiting the event if you have time.

So, this is it. The deadline is approaching. I have zero online donations. I have some cash donations, but I’m not disclosing how much so I can put some whoop on Spencer at the last minute on Friday. So, if you don’t want to see a 43 year old man embarassed by his six year old son, donate to St. Baldrick’s online right now.

your story is beautiful… hope the head shaving goes well ;) you know- no funny spots or weirdly shaped head issues!

We have some experience with the funny spots and weirdly shaped head issues. Although Spencer hasn’t shaved. He was bald from chemotherapy and has several scars on the back of his head from tumbles as a baby and toddler. My head shaves fine, though I have two funny spots on the top left and top right of my skull where the grain of my hair changes by 360 degress in a small swirl. Yes, it’s true. I have horns. I’ll warn my barber about the tough spots.
